APPLICATION OF GIS AND REMOTE SENSING DATA FOR ASSESSING THE GREEN SPACE COVERAGE IN HANOI

Abstract:
The article proposes and validates a spatial analysis methodology for assessing the provision of urban green spaces to the population of Hanoi (Vietnam) using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Earth remote sensing. Vector data on administrative boundaries and existing green areas were collected and processed, and statistical population data by district were integrated. Using GIS, the per-capita area of public green spaces was calculated and compared to the standard value of 7 m² per person. Classification maps revealed a severe shortfall in central districts (under 5 m²/person), while suburban areas meet or exceed the standard. Based on analysis of Yandex Satellite imagery, potential sites for new parks and public gardens were identified.
